It seems more peer feedback requests are coming, guess managers are trying to catch up the schedule as it was said today is the last day for asking for peer feedback.
Got 3 so far, done one, so 2 left plus self-assessment and manager feedback.
Just wish nobody’s going to send me more in the coming hours.
It’s my 10th focal time :).
Will get name list ready tonight for peer feedback, and finish self-assessment tomorrow, then manager/peer feedback in the coming days.
Jan 17 will be my 10 years here, yesterday I got the gift for 10 years service – an espresso machine.
Not much to say, just cannot believe I’ve been working for this company for 10 years, and I’m also happy to be here in 10 years even in different group, city, even country. It was a great company, but it’s having some problems now, and I wish it can take off to be great again.

It was said corp IT is now able to switch HP laptop with a MacBook, there is a guy in our group got his MacBook, and another guy’s request is being handled and will get in “couple of days”.
I’m thinking now – maybe I should get my HP laptop replaced as well. I’m checking software installed on my laptop now, so that I have some rough idea of what ability I’m going to lose by switching to Mac.
I believe I’m still going to have MS Office, and I will still have Firefox and Thunderbird, I will have Yahoo Messenger, and I think Adium can do all Pidgin does. I don’t think I need putty and WinSCP. I assume I can still get software for Blackberry and Nokia E90, but if they are not available it won’t be a big deal. I will have Perl, python, Java, subversion, etc. by default, which is good.
I may lose GNAT Ada, and have to find a better Common LISP environment. I need to find a good media player, while i think VLC should be good enough. Obviously I will lose all those Windows development environment, but if I can get Fusion I could run a Windows image (not sure about corp IT policy though). A new printer (all-in-on) is on the way and I believe it works with Mac (my current one does not work quite well).
Pretty much everything is fine :). I will submit the ticket after coming back from the Christmas vacation.

All those who helped me moving from China to US are all leaving, actually I hesitated to say “all” as I know there is one who will never leave :).
Let’s skip those non-techy people, then here where they went: one goes to eBay, running its biggest offshore R&D center (at least one of the biggest, I’m not quite sure), another one goes to Microsoft (yea, lots of Yahoos went to Microsoft) running their data center division, and this one is said to go to China, though I don’t have any details yet.
I now can say, I stay here longer than them, so ideally I can move on now – I short of one excuse to stay here.
Supposedly I should not be sleepy at all since it’s Monday morning – after a weekend of good rest, I should be busy handling all stuffs.
Well, first I have nothing to “handle”, checked mails and nothing significant, or precisely, there is nothing at all. I think I’m going to in this stage for quite some time till “the deal” becomes clear.
So, get to find something to do to kill the time, thinking now.
A friend mentioned to me Google is hiring and lots of Yahoo!s are jumping off the sinking ship and heading to google, so I should try.
Well, maybe … but no, there are some difficulties I need to overcome before I can be google:
So the conclusion is that I will stay here for some time, even I move on in the future, google can hardly be my destination.
Pity to google – I have some friends in China are really good in this area, but none of them works for google, could be because of any reasons above ๐ .
I think I’m a project/feature killer.
Couple of months back I was asked to test performance of feature GMF, and since the performance was really bad (sorry, 10x times slower), so we have to remove that fancy feature from two major systems’ roadmap;
Couple of weeks ago I was asked to test performance of feature TRF, the resource utilization was not that cool (20~40% more resource), so we have to cancel the (again, fancy) feature from all roadmaps;
Couple of hours ago I started to test the new (sure again, fancy) build system, seems the program does not run at all. I don’t want to predict anything but based on my past record … you know it.
Though I slept for 9 hours last night, I still feel super sleepy now (actually, started from whenever I got on road).
It seems I need to control myself to sleep less, so that to keep myself fresh at office.
