We will be moved to 1st floor, so that 3rd floor where we are sitting now cna be remodelled to the so-called standard.

After it’s done, we the whole team will move back to 3rd floor – right now we are sitting as three groups in different building and different floors, plus one more remote office in Burbank.

It will make the team as a whole, finally. After the big change happened last December, three different teams merged to one but we seldom interact with each other, and wish after the moving we can do better.

I guess, it’s spring now, finally.

It’s no longer cold in the morning, and ther no longer ice on my car (yes, ice, though not thick). Weird thing is that people are wearing more than previous days, I really have no idea about it.

There will be a leads meeting today, I have no idea of what they are going to talk during the meeting, but I believe it’s all about projects’ progress. I should spend some more time on my project plan, as I’m seeing pretty many floating parts in this project, especially so many new frameworks will be used … ๐Ÿ™

Finally ffmpeg started supporting rmvb (RV30 and RV40) format, I guess I’ve been waiting for this for years.

Now I’m able to convert all those rmvb files (well, you know where I got them …) to mobile format that I can watch on my mobile devices. I used to use some rm -> avi converters to do the trick but obviously it was not convenience as they are running on Windows only and cannot programmatically process files, and I do need the feature.

Not sure how fast Ubuntu can take the latest ffpmeg, but I can always build from svn so it is not a big case.

I’m still trying to find a suitable theme – not for others but just for myself ๐Ÿ˜€

I prefer two columns, light blue or grey, and scaled width (I don’t like 100% width). However, I’m still looking for it now and what I’m using is the closest one I can find.

Get to introduce this blog to some friends, maybe they can help me find a better one.

Hotmail started to support free POP3, where is Yahoo now?

Could be fast, I believe, since all mail accounts I have (you know, A LOT), are all supporting POP3 and even IMAP except Yahoo. It’s a pity to see we are behind others again.

Actually I would like to see Yahoo supports IMAP, just as lots of engineers mentioned, it will be a great feature especially for those who need to access same mail account from multiple places, and I’m pretty sure this kind of users are heavy and loyal users that we have to focus on.

I was trying to re-install my ubuntu box as it has some wrong items in gnome menu due to previous language setting, but before I do that I came up with a crazy idea of making it a honeypot, and see how fast it can be hacked.

So I changed the password of root to 12345 and hooked it with internet, I mean, externally accessible. I did it in the morning before I went to office, and by the time I got home in the evening, you know it started running something funny already (pscan2). Seems it was a pretty standard to make a zombie (I believe in China it is called “catching chicken”), and once it become a zombie, it started scanning other machines on the internet.

They are using Yahoo’s Geocities to store their program, glad to see Yahoo is helping people in any mean …

Anyway, get to re-install the machine again, have to be a fresh image as I have no idea of what they have done else. Oh yea, I have to move the machine back as I need wired internet connection and keyboard and monitor.

Now almost everytime I drove to office, I can see fog/smoke in south bay area, it got me feel like the old days I drove to office in Beijing.

I think pollution caused by population is the main reason, plus south bay is a classic valley, thus pollution cannot be blew away.

Anyway it seems less beneficial of living here if weather is getting worse, now I’m feeling lucky that we chose Pleasanton which is still have perfect air condition, though somebody mentioned it is too hot in summer and too cold in winter.

Just got a new bug, which we believe it has been there for more than a year. It seems nobody has ever tested that feature at all, never!

This system is way to complicated to be understanded but a single human being, it is way too hard to find problems especially for inter-team parts (cross function). I’m thinking of how to avoid it in my next project, tough.
